The screwdriver method is messy, but has always worked for me. Any filter wrench should work. As should any strap wrench, chain whip or what have you.
You can buy the K&N filter and it has a little spot in top for use with a socket as well as safety wire.
As if you really need that...safety wire is kind of a lost art any how.
