The main advantage of a diesel is the driveability in everyday use. You just look at the torque figures for both engines, and the revolutions at which you get max torque. You should also get better fuel economy, but as with any vehicle its your right foot that dictates that.

If you are going to buy new in 2007, then the dealer should have no objection to you trying both diesel and petrol. Thats the only real way to make up your mind. The diesels are more popular round this way, but its such a personal thing.

Service costs should be similar, but diesels should ideally have the oil/filter changed more regularly. Again, ask the Kia dealer.
